Biden-era LGTBQ Placement Regulations Overturned
On November 19, the Administration for Children and Families sent an Information Memorandum to states informing them that Biden-era regulations establishing designated placements for LGBTQI+ youth are no longer in effect. The rules were intended to protect LGBTQI+ youth from harassment, mistreatment, and abuse, including mistreatment related to a child’s sexual orientation or gender identity (background). A Texas federal court ruled in June that the regulations exceeded the underlying statutory authority and were contrary to federal law.
