ACF Announces Home for Every Child Initiative

On November 24, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announced a new initiative, called “A Home for Every Child,” which aims to increase the supply of foster homes available to foster children and youth in every state, with a goal of having at least as many foster homes available as there are children and youth in the foster care system. Currently, according to ACF, there are only 57 licensed foster homes available nationwide for every 100 children entering foster care. According to the press statement, to achieve this goal ACF “will focus on both sides of the equation — increasing the availability of safe homes through diligent recruitment, prioritizing kin, and improving retention of existing caregivers while reducing entries into foster care through effective prevention and faster pathways to permanency.”
