Executive Director
Position Overview
VFA is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the agency’s strategic vision and day-to-day operations. This part-time role (75% FTE) offers a unique opportunity to influence national policy, engage with key stakeholders and represent a passionate coalition of member agencies committed to improving outcomes for children and families.
Key Responsibilities
Work for the Board of Directors to develop the agency’s advocacy agenda
Recruit, engage, and retain board members
Organize and facilitate board and committee meetings
Oversee financial and administrative operations of the agency
Lead execution of VFA’s policy agenda and legislative priorities
Keep member agencies informed of pending and developing legislation and needed action
Build and maintain relationships with congressional and executive branch officials
Represent VFA in meetings, briefings, and coalitions
Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in federal or state policy, government relations, Capitol Hill experience preferred
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Exceptional advocacy and relationship building skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Demonstrated strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge and experience in the child welfare, adoption field preferred
Professional presence and credibility in high-level policy settings
Graduate degree in public policy, social work, or a related field (preferred)
Compensation
Salary range from $75,000 - $85,000, annually (based on 75% FTE)

Internships
Are you interested in learning about non-profit work, advocacy strategies, public policy, and child welfare adoption issues? As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work in a unique non-profit environment and gain invaluable knowledge and experience working on meaningful projects that will help raise awareness about children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted. Interns will have an opportunity to attend relevant policy briefings, strategy meetings, and conference calls.
