National Center for Enhanced Post-Adoption Support Launched

The website for a major new national post-adoption resource center went live in mid-February. The new National Center for Enhanced Post-Adoption Support already houses over 300 resources on a variety of post-adoption topics. It expects to provide intensive on-site technical assistance starting in June.

The Post-Adoption Center was funded through a five-year grant from the Children’s Bureau, an office of the Administration for Children and Families. Spaulding for Children, a VFA member, is the lead for this national initiative. Spaulding is also working with several other partner organizations on the Center, including Child Trends, the Harmony Family Center, and three other VFA members – the National Adoption Association, Raise the Future, and the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE).

Resources on the Post-Adoption Center’s website include a catalog of over 100 post-adoption programs and hundreds of resources on topics such as post-permanency services, kinship programs, family engagement, best practices, and evaluation. The Post-Adoption Center will also provide individualized assistance to child welfare information on specific topics and offer peer groups, webinars, and other opportunities for learning.

Starting in June, the Post-Adoption Center will provide on-site technical assistance free of charge to five states, tribal nations, or territories, with five new sites added every year after that until they reach a total of 25. Technical assistance will include:

  • a comprehensive assessment of the site’s existing post-permanency program,

  • an action plan that describes in detail how to enhance the site’s post-permanency program,

  • assistance implementing the plan,

  • funds to cover some of the costs associated with the implementation, and

  • assistance finding funds to sustain the post-permanency programming.
