Letter to the Office of Civil Rights on Proposed Conscience Rule

On Friday, January 26, 2018 the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in the Department of Health and Services issued a proposed rule that seeks to instill power and new enforcement authority in the OCR to enforce and initiate compliance regarding conscience rights in health care.

Voice for Adoption has written a letter to the OCR expressing our concern with the ruling, explaining the affect it can have on foster youth. More specifically, LGBTQ youth may be negatively affected. We are deeply concerned about the potential misuse and abuse of this NPRM as it applies to the child welfare system at the state and local level, especially in regard to issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

VFA advocates for all youth within the system, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious liberty. Every child deserves a family, no matter what.
