Adoptions from Foster Care Drop Again in 2021

Adoptions from foster care fell for the third year in row in 2021, falling to 54,200, according to AFCARS data released by the Children’s Bureau on November 1. It was the lowest annual number of adoptions since 2015. One reason for the drop is that the number of children waiting to be adopted (114,000) has also dropped for the fourth year in a row. That number is also the lowest it has been since 2015.
