Member Spotlight: Child Welfare League of America

Founded in 1920, Child Welfare League of America is the nation's oldest and largest membership child welfare agency. With focuses on "children and youth who may have experienced abuse, neglect, family disruption, or a range of other factors that jeopardize their safety, permanence, or well-being" and "the families, caregivers, and the communities that care for and support these children" works to ensure these children are prioritized in the United States. This goal is achieved by engaging families, communities, organizations, and all levels of government to work together to provide children every avenue to success. VFA is incredibly blessed to have this organization as one of our founding board member agencies.

"The primary goal of the CWLA National Blueprint is to be a catalyst for change"

A major piece of work that the CWLA has implemented is the CWLA National Blueprint for Excellence in Child Welfare (known as the CWLA National Blueprint or National Blueprint). The work that was done in 2012 and 2013 for this blueprint works for "the future of child welfare that all children will grow up safely in loving families and supportive communities" by placing efforts not only on child welfare agencies but also families, communities and providers. This effort is applicable for all youth and children including those who do not receive child welfare services.

CWLA has five practice priorities including; family and community support, healthy growth and development, protecting youth and families, placement and permancey, & race, culture and identity. Along with those priorities CWLA is committed to educating members of the community about trauma informed treatment, calming children in crisis, best practices in behavior support an intervention, strategies for supervisors: reducing restraint and seclusion through the use of e-learning.  For more ways to become involved with the CWLA click here.
